Having worked in the early childhood education sector for over 20 years, I have always been passionate about play as a right for every child.
I have a Master of Education in early childhood teaching and a current play therapy qualification and associate membership with the Play Therapy Practitioners Association (PPTA).
Play therapy is defined as a dynamic interpersonal relationship between a child & a therapist trained in play therapy procedures and who provides selected play materials in a warm and welcoming environment. Through child -centred play the child has the opportunity to fully explore self (feelings, thoughts, experiences and behaviours). In this way, children play to make meaning of their worlds past and present.
Play therapy can assist your child to
- build resilience & self-esteem
- manage emotional self-regulation
- enhance communication & social skills
- develop problem solving skills
- foster a sense of identity
- work through trauma and anxiety
